What’s next

First thing first. We are once again world champ … Kapil Paaji might have tired holding the “original” world cup trophy for last 28 years.

I always prefer to write on only those issues which are missed by our 24 x 7 media or social causes where a counter view is required. For the last 4-5 months any of these condition didn’t met. Hence you guys must be missing me :-). As all of the major landmarks of our UPA part II are well covered by media. Top of my head I’ve few Commonwealth Scam, Adarsh Scam, 2G Scam and recently we have witnessed agitation by Gandhi of our generation Anna Hazare.

You people might be thinking what made me to write about this. As this well covered by Media, Facebook, Twitter etc. didn’t check on orkut. I hope its not there. :-)

I understand that a tough law is required to curb corruption and this is the need of the hour. But frankly speaking I don’t understand where exactly common man or ‘Aam Aadmi’ (whose hand is with congress) is going to use this?

Following are the services where we generally (read as always) give bribe and already accepted that this is the part of our system.

  1. Driving License
  2. International Driving License (Plz note different rate apply for this)
  3. Passport
  4. Tatkal Passport (Plz note special rate apply for this)
  5. Marriage Certificate
  6. Donation in School
  7. Flat / Plot Registration
  8. Customs
  9. Our dear Police Constable
  10. Lodging FIR (I think this is really tough even after giving bribe)

Per my understanding above mentioned service is not going to cover under lokpal. If they are then god helps the people who are going to work under this department.

Without any doubt year 2010 belongs to the unprecedented year of corruption in Indian History. But still I think all the innocent people are with Anna Hazare by thinking their day-to-day life will be easier by availing basic services.

I don’t know about others but I feel humiliated when I have to give bribe for these basic services. Giving bribe of Rs 200 is more painful than that of 200 crore scam. As those 200 Rs pinch directly.

I personally think that giving and taking bribe is in our character now and we desperately need a lokpal for our character.

So, are we really not going to give bribe anymore... or What's next (after lokpal)??

Yours ‘PAL’,

Dhiraj Srivastava

Dhiraj, you are absolutely right. Top level corruption is just a symbol of bigger corruption which is in our DNA.

We, the comman man, are basically corrupt.

Few more examples of every day corruption (my definition of corruption: non obligation of one's duties with the intention of some sort of gain for own and / some sort of loss for other):

1. A school teacher not teaching in school and then compelling same students to take tutions from him.(My own experience).
2. Common man rash driving or without helmet or papers and then negotiating with traffic police for cash settlement
(With or without traffic police's provocation).
3. A parent getting desparate to get his child admitted in "GOOD" school, offering money to middleman.
4. While choosing number for vehicle, asking for good number and paying money for this consideration.

5. Buying car deck (or any white good) from local market without bill.
6. A student attaching currency with his examination paper.

The list is very long. In fact whatever we do, there is an element of corruption(knowingly or unknowingly- most of us won't even treat these deeds as corruption).

I don't know much about jan lokpal bill, but i think they are planning to have officers as well under it.
This is true that corruption is in our DNA but i think, it's cause and solution is same, System.
I have a very good example of this.

Here in US, there are lot of DESIS, having same DNA with corruption, but follow rules strictly, because they know, there is no escape if they are caught. So same person, different behavior. There some areas where you know cope will not be there, people cross speed limit quite often, no matter who you are DESI or American. It is something system and law and law enforcement.
It is something which comes from both ends. Top to bottom or bottom to Top.
